Amnesty International Norway is looking for motivated young people to join RightUp 2.0, a groundbreaking global youth-led research initiative exploring human rights and technology. Through this project, you will collaborate with other young researchers in a global project to gather information that will contribute to shaping how Amnesty International works in the digital rights field.

The project lasts for one year, so you must be able to commit for all of 2026.

This is voluntary work, but because it is so time-consuming, the researchers will recieve a modest financial compensation.

What is RightUp?

Right Up is a youth-led project!

RightUp is Amnesty International’s first youth-led research project under the Rights Click program. It challenges traditional research models by putting young people in the lead — as creators of knowledge, not just subjects.

  • The first phase of the project took place in the Philippines and resulted in Amnesty's first ever youth-led research report, called “Left to their own devices” about the harassment young human rights defenders face in digital spaces.

  • Now Amnesty is planning phase 2, which will be global, with research teams in Norway, Kenya, and Argentina.

In Amnesty Norway, we are now looking for four young researchers to bring local perspectives on human rights challenges in tech while collaborating with peers worldwide to produce a truly global piece of research.

Your Role

As part of the research team, you will:

  • Actively participate in workshops, trainings, and both online and in-person meetings.

  • Collect and analyze information using participatory, inclusive, youth-friendly methodologies.

  • Collaborate with a diverse team of young researchers from Argentina and Kenya, sharing experiences and learning.

  • Co-design recommendations and proposals that can influence public policy and the practices of governments and tech companies

Our requirements

  • Age: 18–24.

  • Commitment: You must commit to spending 3–4 hours per week for the next year.

  • Availability: You must be able to attend a one-week training in Kenya (March 5–13, 2026).

  • Language: Intermediate English level (project activities will be primarily in English).

  • Engagement: Passion for human rights in the digital world.

What You’ll Gain

  • Training and mentoring in research, activism, and human rights.

  • Support in wellbeing and digital security, ensuring you research and grow in a safe environment.

  • The opportunity to influence decisions that affect young people globally.

  • The chance to be part of a global network of youth researchers driving change through action and evidence.

Selection Criteria

  • Motivation and perspective matter more than experience.

  • Diversity of backgrounds, identities, and experiences will be valued.

How to apply

  • Fill in the application form.

  • How you could contributeDeadline: January 7th, 2026
